Current services usually take about 15 to 16 hours, depending on the train and stops. Most run overnight, so plan from the exact arrival time printed on your ticket.

The train generally travels through Qom and Arak, crosses the Zagros railway via Dorud and the mountain corridor, then descends through Andimeshk and Shush toward Ahvaz. Calling points vary by service.

The Dorud–Andimeshk section has dramatic valleys, tunnels and mountain views, but overnight schedules may cover much of it in darkness. Check your departure time before choosing the train mainly for scenery.

A four-berth sleeper offers more room and privacy for the 15-hour trip. A six-berth compartment is usually cheaper; compare bedding, catering, air-conditioning and toilet facilities for the exact service.

Most long-distance Tehran services use Ahvaz's main railway station, while Karun is a separate station serving other routes. Read the destination on your ticket carefully and send that exact station name to your driver.

Ahvaz can be far hotter than Tehran, especially from late spring to early autumn. Check the forecast, carry water and keep light clothing accessible for arrival, while retaining a layer for the air-conditioned train.

Meal service depends on the train and fare. Check whether dinner or breakfast is included or can be ordered, and bring water, medication and a snack in case the onboard choice is limited.

Bring the original passport used for booking and verify that the English name and passport number match the ticket. Save the ticket offline and keep both documents within reach.

Your Tehran–Ahvaz ticket does not automatically include an onward journey. Khorramshahr may be reached by a separate train or road transfer, while Abadan is usually reached by road; verify schedules and leave a generous buffer.
