Current services commonly take about 14 to 15 hours, depending on stops. Most departures are overnight, so use the exact arrival time on your ticket when arranging a hotel or driver.
The train generally runs south through the Qom and Kashan corridors, then via Yazd, Bafq and Zarand toward Kerman. Calling points vary, so check the stop list attached to your selected service.
A four-berth sleeper provides more space and privacy and is usually the most comfortable choice. Six-berth compartments are cheaper; compare bedding, meal service, air-conditioning and toilet facilities before booking.
The railway station is outside the old bazaar area, so a taxi is the practical option. Keep your hotel's Persian address ready, agree that the driver understands the destination and allow extra time for an early arrival.
Mahan requires a separate road transfer from Kerman. Bam is farther away and may be reached by a separate train or road trip; do not assume your Tehran–Kerman ticket continues, and verify the onward schedule independently.
Meal inclusion depends on the train and fare. Check whether food is included, pre-orderable or sold onboard, and carry water, medication and a light snack for the overnight journey.
Days can be warm while nights and winter mornings are cold. Dress in layers and keep a warm top accessible for arrival; check the forecast rather than assuming desert weather is always hot.
Carry the original passport used for booking and verify that the English name and passport number match the ticket. Save the ticket offline and keep both documents with you during the journey.
Leave a buffer before a fixed excursion, especially for a trip to Mahan, Bam or the desert. Overnight trains can arrive late, and you will still need time to reach your hotel or meet a driver.
