
Professor Sayed Mahmoud Hessabi was an Iranian nuclear physicist, a senator, and the minister of education in Mr. Mosaddegh’s cabinet. He organized the science and engineering faculties of Tehran University and established several educational and research centers in Iran. He did degrees in literature, civil engineering, mining engineering, electrical engineering, and at the age of 25 he took a first-class PhD in physics from Sorbonne University. He knew the holy Quran and the Diwan of Hafiz (a collection of poems) by heart and was familiar with the works of many other Persian poets such as Sa’di and Molana (Rumi). In addition to Persian, he could speak Arabic, French, English, and German, and was familiar with Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Turkish, Italian, and Avestan. He was awarded the title of “the Father of Modern Physics of Iran”. After his death in 1992, the third floor of his house in Tehran turned into a museum to exhibit some of his personal items, equipment, awards, medals, books, family photos etc.
