Golestan Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the heart of Tehran where you can still find some Iranian traditional buildings. This Safavid/Qajar era architectural masterpiece has several parts and each of them is home to a collection of artwork. Each room and its collections have their own interesting stories and reflect a part of Iran’s history. The yard and its garden are also amazing and visitors will be overwhelmed by the nice views.
We will first go to Takht-e Marmar (or the Marble Throne Porch) to visit an open-fronted hall with all its magnificent mirrorwork and the marble throne located in its center. The throne was made for Fath Ali Shah of Qajar dynasty in the early 19th century.
Then, we will walk a few steps away to visit Khalvat-e Karim Khani (or Karim Khan’s Nook). This little terrace has a lot of strange stories that may terrify you.
Next, we will visit the main halls including the Mirror Hall. This hall and the ones nearby are now home to different gifts given to the Shahs of Iran by different European kings. The Peacock or the Sun Throne was also kept in the Mirror Hall before it was moved to the National Jewels Museum.
Finally, we will visit the wind towers of Emarat-e Badgir from outside to learn about the old cooling system of Iran.
There are more parts to visit in Golestan Palace. If you are interested in visiting them, you should make a request in advance.
