Built in the heart of Tehran to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire, Shahyad Tower, now called Azadi Tower, is the symbol of Tehran. It is located in Azadi Square and has witness a lot of recent events including the revolution of 1979. The tower consists of three floors and a basement; its architect, Mr. Hossein Amanat, has artfully combined the modern and ancient Persian architecture to design it. The basement has several halls and a museum and some galleries are held in them. There isn’t much to visit on the first floor.
You can see some windows leading light in and will take the next elevator to move up to the second floor. On the second floor, which is 33 meters high, you can enjoy the internal architecture of the tower and observe how the architect has professionally combined the ancient and modern styles to construct the tower. This floor is used to display historic photos. The third floor and the roof also give you a good view of the capital and the highest point of the tower is 46 meters.
