Susa was the capital of Elam (Susiana) and administrative capital of the Achaemenian king Darius I and his successors from 522 BCE. It was located at the foot of the Zagros Mountains near the bank of the Karkheh Kūr (Choaspes) River in the Khuzistan region of Iran.
The ancient site of Haft Tapeh is one of the sights of Susa and is a collection of 14 ancient hills. It is located 15 kilometers southeast of the city of Shush, and its distance from Chaghazanbil Temple is 23 kilometers.
According to archaeologists, the residential area discovered in Haf Tapeh is the city of Kabnak. Kabnak is one of the cities of Elamite civilization. The presence of a tomb belonging to one of the Elamite kings is the main reason for the connection of this residential area with the Elamite civilization.
ChoghaZanbil Ziggurat is one of the few extant ziggurats outside Mesopotamia. Archaeological excavations undertaken between 1951 and 1962 revealed the site, and the ziggurat is considered to be the best-preserved example in the world. In 1979, Chogha Zanbil became the first Iranian site to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Hydraulic System of Shushtar, a unique technique of ancient times which was developed to pave the roads of occupation in a semi-desert land. Dating back to the 5th century BC, the system was built imaginatively by the famous Achaemenid king of old Persia, Darius the Great.
Leaving Ahvaz behind, we will move to Shush where we will visit the ancient city of Susa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its museum.
Then, we will drive to visit the magnificent Chogha Zanbil temple. The temple belongs to the Elam Period and is 3200 years old.
Finally, we will drive to Shushtar and visit the Historical Hydraulic System of Shushtar
