Niavaran Palace and Garden were originally built for Fath Ali Shah of Qajar dynasty in a crump of reeds out of that time’s Tehran. It was used as the shah’s summer residence for it was located in the mountains and had nice weather. Later, several palaces were constructed in the garden by his successors and Mohammad Reza Shah of Pahlavi dynasty. At the time of the second Pahlavi shah, it was one of the main dwellings of the shah and his family. Today, there remains the main palace of Niavaran Garden reconstructed at the time of Muhammad Reza Shah, the palace built at the time of Naser al-Din Shah, the mansion built at the time of Ahmed Shah, as well as the buildings made as museums at the time of the second shah of Pahlavi dynasty to display contemporary art and ancient findings.
We will first visit the main palace of Niavaran Complex which was built between 1958 and 1968 for Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and his family as their main residence. In this palace, you can find many Persian rugs and European-style furniture.
Then, we will go to the Mansion of Ahmed Shah of Qajar dynasty, the last building constructed at the time of the Qajars. It was later used by Reza Shah as his residence and workplace.
Next, we will visit Jahan Nama Museum where you can find Iranian and foreign contemporary artwork. The museum exhibits artwork by artists such as Sohrab Sepehri, Naser Oveisi, Georges Braque, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso etc.
The last to visit in this tour, is the Sahebqaraniyeh Palace. It was built in 1850 by the order of Naser al-Din Shah of Qajar dynasty. The first constitution of Iran was signed by Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar in 1906 in this palace. It was used as the workplace of the last shah of Iran too.
