Kermanshah, one of the important settlements of the Medes, was located on essential communication routes such as the Silk Road. During the Sasanian era, it was also considered one of the important government centers. For this reason, there are many historic sites from that era, such as Bostan Arch, Biston inscription, Anahita Temple, etc. During the First World War, it was occupied by the Ottoman government for a while, and then it was occupied by the allies. Finally, after the country's divisions, Kermanshah province has fourteen cities.
First in the morning, we will visit the Anahita Temple in Kangavar. The Anahita Temple is the name of one of two archaeological sites in Iran popularly thought to have been attributed to the ancient deity Anahita. The more significant and more widely known of the two is located at Kangāvar in Kermanshah Province. The other is located in Bishapur.
Then, we go to the Achaemenian inscriptions at Bisotun (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), among the world's largest rock reliefs. These carvings and inscriptions tell us a story. The story of Darius the Great and his victories on battlefields. The carvings are so detailed that it leaves you wondering how Achaemenians left such a rich legacy behind, a legacy that still remains today and still manages to surprise the modern man.
Now it is time to taste the local food of Kermanshah
From here, we will visit a Sassanian Bas-relief at Tagh-e Bostan. It is an archeological site that belongs to the Sassanid dynasty. The carvings are primarily centered on the glories and victories of Sassanid kings. They are examples of some of the finest sculptures in Iran. What is most interesting is that these carvings have endured hundreds of years of strong winds and rains and still stand firmly.
